Aqui funcionou uma padaria, que se materializa em dois fornos que, na \u00e9poca, \u00e9 prov\u00e1vel que estivessem no exterior, mas que atualmente se encontram um na biblioteca (desativado) e outro no jardim (forma original). \u00c9 poss\u00edvel que a padaria aqui existente tenha uma liga\u00e7\u00e3o ao sanat\u00f3rio que funcionou, em 1853, num pr\u00e9dio do morgado Ant\u00f3nio Moniz de Arag\u00e3o, n\u00famero 10 da Rua do Castanheiro, demolido nos anos 80 e espa\u00e7o integrante do Castanheiro Boutique Hotel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pelo seu clima, considerado adequado para tratamento de doen\u00e7as pulmonares, a Madeira atraiu muitos estrangeiros, desenvolvendo no final do s\u00e9culo XIX um \u201cturismo terap\u00eautico\u201d, de estadia prolongada em quintas, que se transformaram em hot\u00e9is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A cria\u00e7\u00e3o de um sanat\u00f3rio deve-se ao pedido de D. Am\u00e9lia de Leuchtenberg (vi\u00fava do Imperador D. Pedro I do Brasil) \u00e0 Rainha D. Maria II de Portugal, sua enteada, porque a sua filha Maria Am\u00e9lia morrera de tuberculose, na Madeira, em 1853, na Quinta das Ang\u00fastias\/ Quinta Vigia, com vinte e dois anos.
